Zentangles

This fall our classes spent time playing with Zentangles. In this piece we took a couple of pictures from a magazine and cut them up. We then reassembled them, enlarged them and traced them onto an 18 x 24 inch paper. Then we "Zentangled". I choose to use colors of black and white and browns to complement the Native American theme. I have titled this piece "Traditions".

Fall Art Work

I also experimented with using the calla Lillie shape. I want to create functional art that is decorative also. This piece is all slap work. It can be used as a candle holder or just a ornament. This is actually my second attempt. The first one was broken by the students who sit at my table. I had used a pinch pot to create the actual flower and I have to admit that it was a little to heavy for my likes, so I reattempted it using slab to create the flower in this attempt and like it much better. I have NOT admitted this to the boys who broke the first piece. : )

This fall I have been working in clay for the first time in 30 years. I am finding that I really enjoy the medium and wish I hadn't waited so long to take it back up. I have spent most of the fall working with slap and pinch pots. I really like working with a nature theme. I spent quite a bit of time creating candle plates from slab clay. I have made them from leave shapes I took from the trees in my yard. This piece I have used as a trivet on my stove.

My recent Artwork

I have been working on this painting all Fall semester. It is the Coneflowers in my back yard last July. They are growing up against our aged wooden privacy fence. I have titled this "Something Old, Something New".
